Steam condensing

I’ve added a steam condenser to the brewery. If you don’t believe me, here’s a video of it in action.

  • It does exactly what was needed, condensing the steam so none escapes into the room. Making the house smell like a brewery was a handy feature of brew day, but the condensation wasn’t ideal.
  • It was difficult to manage temperature before. Maintaining a rolling boil was difficult, dependant on the ambient temperature. Leaving the lid on fixes this.
  • Leaving the lid on does main it more important to manage the home break. I think I need to start adding lipohop again.
  • Leaving the lid on also controls the boil off rate to exactly 4l per hour.
  • Adding hops and chemicals is trickier. I’ve just got that one porthole to open and add things. If I use a hop spider then any this else I add (eg yeast nutrient, candi) get stuck in there and doesn’t circulate as well. I’ll have to try being with pellets and no spider.
